It never occured to me that the eye check done in the childcare would be any issue as I always believed that Alvan's eyesight would be alright. Even after his check, I never check his school bag for results or whatever, it was hb's first time checking his bag for some other message that he found the referral letter for Alvan to go for another checm at HPB near SGH!
So, we were being given an appt to bring him down for further checks! And during these time we had told him that after the check in his childcare, the eye doc found that he can't read some of the alphabets on the way and thus he needs to go for further checks and he may need to put on spectacles if he's eyes are found to be 'faulty'!!! So, during these 2 weeks, he did not ask much for our smart devices or when he was asked to stop playing our phones he would return without much whining!
So comes the day I brought him for check and I was pretty surprised that they did not allow parents to go into the assessment room with the child. We were asked to stay outside while they assessed and we were told of the outcome when they are out! I know my son was pretty afraid of it but was surprised that he asked to go to the loo when I told him that it was his turn! So I went in the room and tell the assessor that my son needs the loo NOW! Lol... so off we went to the loo...
I was staying outside this room while my son is inside watching some cartoon and reading out alphabets and numbers!!
A small booklet being handed to us during registration and my son jokingly asked to read this booklet after his toilet visit when I asked him to go into the room for assessment! See how anxious he is?!??
When he came out with the optometrist, I was soooo surprised to hear that my son got Astigmatism (she told me 闪光 rather than Astigmatism, which I think its most commonly known to the public compared to Astigmatism, and btw, the lady is an Indian!)!!! And I asked if he got short sighted, luckily no but we need to be refer to another eye specialist to see if he needs to put on glasses! I was given 3 options, KKH, TTSH or NUH, but she told me that KKH is a hot option and asked me to chose the other 2 options.. naturally TTSH as its nearer to us...
And I was again surprised that the next appt available is next day 815am!! As someone cancelled this appt, so I took it without further ado!
And here we are... the next day early morning appt! Lucky we were allowed into the room to see how he was being assessed and see how badly he's doing... after this first check, he was being given some eye drops to relax his muscles and another check be done abt 20mins later...
And at the end of the 2 checks, we kind of expected that he would need glasses as the result is that his left eye Astigmatism is the most serious at 250 and right eye at 175. But we will need to get further instructions and confirmation from the eye doc before to conclude our visit.
We were being asked by the doc if we found any unusual habits of him which led us to think he got Astigmatism, if he's a full term baby, anyone of us or siblings had Astigmatism, as this condition is inherited rather than caused by his daily activities. Glad is that his eyesight was not affected by his usage of smart devices but rather a genetic caused! I can feel him getting tired of all these tests in the early morning that he keep asking if we can head home...
After settling the payment and getting his prescription, we head home. And since it's abit late to send him to childcare, I brought him to get his glasses!
Here's a sneak preview of his selected frame! Again, he was getting so tired and keep asking to go home!
3 days later, his spectacles is ready!! And he refused to put it on after collecting it... And I had to let him open a new car with a condition to wear his spectacles! Here's him playing with his newly acquired car with his spectacles! He just look so cute in them!!! Lol...
See how mischievous he is here? Look at his right ear!!! And he would purposely print his handprint on the lens despite us telling him not to! A really irritating boy... lol...
